About 300 people in Lithuania may not be aware that they are infected with HIV

According to the head of the HIV/AIDS/STI and Hepatitis Surveillance Division of the Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS, Dr I. Čaplinskienė, there can be about 250-300 people in Lithuania who are infected with HIV who do not know that they are infected and therefore can spread the HIV infection without knowing it.
The European HIV-Hepatitis Testing Week takes place this week to focus on the importance of understanding of early detection of HIV and hepatitis. If these infections are timely diagnosed, free treatment is provided.
According to the latest data of the Lithuanian Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS, HIV infection in Lithuania was diagnosed in 3,133 people, one in five has developed AIDS and one in seven has died for various reasons.
