Activists start to collect signatures for total ban on alcohol advertising

For the proposals to be accepted by parliament, the organisers have to collect at least 50,000 citizens’ signatures in two months. If successful, the group will try to submit amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control to the parliament, which would restrict alcohol sales and advertising.

The group are pushing for an increase in the legal drinking age to 20, and are proposing a ban on alcohol advertising, restrictions on where and when it can be sold and the setting up of special outlets that would only sell alcohol.

Lithuania is in the top three consumers of alcohol per capita in the world according to the World Health Organisation.
