Lidl has not yet confirmed the news but both leading Lithuanian newspapers Verslo Žinios and Lietuvos Rytas quoted sources confirming that Sabonis would launch Lidl’s campaign..
Agnė Dalia Gaižauskienė, the head of Lidl Lietuva’s marketing and public relations department, said “we are intensively preparing for the opening of our stores, filming advertising clips, forming store employee teams and training them. We are moving towards our common goal – to open the stores.”
Sabonis has not made a habit of appearing in advertisements. He last appeared in an advertisement in 2014, and Gediminas Galkauskas, who worked with the TV channels that created the advertisement, acknowledged that Sabonis had been an expensive but worthwhile face to have in the ads that were aired.
