Valančiūnas, who currently plays for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, was stopped on Savanorių Avenue on Friday afternoon. The police suspected that window film on his Mercedes Benz SUV was too dark.

According to local regulations, car window Visible Light Transmission (VLT) must be at least 70 percent. Valančiūnas’ car windows transmitted only 26 percent of visible light, which presented a traffic safety hazard.

In such cases, drivers have two options. They can remove the window film immediately and pay a fine. If they choose to keep the film, they are fined and have their vehicle’s technical inspection certificate annulled.

According to police officers who stopped Valančiūnas, the basketball player was sorry about violating the regulation and removed window film from his Mercedes immediately. He will have to pay a 14-euro fine.
