The potential complex in Ozo Street, Vilnius, would provide non-formal, sports development and health services. The territory would become more attractive to investors, a part of state institutions could be relocated there as well.

“The European Union Structural Funds could cover up to EUR 50-70 million of the project’s cost,” Butkevičius said. “The same infrastructure could be additionally used for cultural and sporting activities, to generate revenue and reduce public sector expenses for its upkeep.”

The prime minister said that a special working group has already completed assessment on the project’s scope and a call for design projects could be announced this April. If the process runs smoothly, tendering for a contractor will be announced next year and the complex would open in 2018 at the earliest.
