Prosecutor Gintas Ivanauskas submitted a request to question the president several weeks ago. After a pause in the case the court did not support the request, ruling that questioning the president is not required. The court found that this would be and excessive action because Grybauskaitė was not related to the events in which Ulbinaitė faced charges.
The court also rejected the prosecutor’s request to question as a witness Director General of the State Security Department (VSD), Gediminas Grina. However, the VSD’s officer Vidmantas Kaladinskas will testify in a closed hearing on 9 April.
The court once again heard Ulbinaitė’s testimony on Monday. Afterwards the advisor revealed she hoped that the prosecutor’s requests would be dismissed because, according to the advisor, they were baseless. The advisor said she did not receive new questions but was asked to clarify certain things.
Ulbinaitė’s lawyer Giedrius Danelius said he will ask to include in the case the report on the threats to national security published on Monday by the VSD. According to him, this is a far more detailed report compared to the one for which leaking Ulbinaitė was accused of. The latest report deals with concrete individuals, it even includes their photos and photos from meetings. According to the lawyer, one of the motives of the defence’s appeal is that the report had been classified unfoundedly and was baselessly regarded as a professional secret.
