He will visit the Danish contingent serving in the NATO air-policing mission in Zokniai, northern Lithuania, and meet with President Dalia Grybauskaitė for a discussion of bilateral issues, cooperation within the European Union (EU), shared interests in the Brexit talks and other matters.
Grybauskaitė and Rasmussen will meet in Šiauliai and together visit the air-policing troops who took over the mission earlier this week, the Lithuanian President’s Office said. This is the 6th rotation of Danish aviators in the Baltic states.
Furthermore, a Danish officer heads the NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) recently set up in Vilnius and listed as the most efficient headquarters along the Alliance’s eastern border. Danish troops also serve in the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Estonia and have repeatedly taken part in large-scale NATO exercises in Lithuania.
According to the press release, the meeting between the Lithuanian president and the Danish PM will address enhancement of NATO defence and support to Ukraine. Just like all other Baltic and Nordic states, Denmark supports Ukraine‘s European aspirations, provides assistance to its structural reforms.
