The ministry said in a press release that Germanas will be in charge of bilateral relations with member-states of the European Union (EU) and aspirant countries. He will also coordinate Lithuania’s participation in regional European forums (Nordic-Baltic cooperation, the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the Baltic Council of Ministers), development of relations with countries of South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. He was also put in charge of formulating and implementing Lithuanian policies in the United Nations, the Council of Europe and other multilateral formats, as well as Lithuania’s development cooperation, provision of humanitarian aid and issues of Lithuanians living abroad.
Skusevičius will be in charge of formulating and implementing security policies, development of trans-Atlantic, bilateral and multilateral cooperation with foreign countries and regions. He will also be responsible for enhancement of the Eastern Neighborhood policies, bilateral and multilateral relations with Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, formulating and implementing information policies and improvement of public diplomacy. His responsibilities also include with world Jewish communities, Holocaust and Jewish heritage issues, operations of honorary consuls.
Meanwhile, Zananavičius will work on formulating and implementing EU policies, relations with EU institutions. His fields of operations will also include economic diplomacy and Lithuania’s foreign trade policies, as well as exports and investments, improvement of the country’s integration in global markets and better competition, as well as economic security policies.
As of January 23, European Countries Department director Vidmantas Purlys will be appointed as the ministry’s political director on temporary basis. Under EU and NATO practices, he will assist the foreign minister in coordinating operations of the ministry’s divisions.
