“Their motivation varies from material gain to realization of their anti-European, anti-American and anti-democratic position. In this field, merely a few dozen people consciously work for Russia in Lithuania,” the MP told the Lietuvos Žinios daily.
In his words, the current Russian Federal Security Service is built on the Soviet KGB legacy, but the people who worked for the Soviet security cannot undermine today’s Lithuania.
“Amid the tricky relations with Russia, a few KGB employees are activated to participate in campaigns of misinformation. First of all, they aim at the politicians who created the free Lithuania of March 11. However, this cannot undermine Lithuania, as its society is indeed active in its response to Russian misinformation attacks and has gained a far deeper understanding of its past and history over the 25 years (of independence),” Anušauskas said.
