Electricity prices to go down for Lithuanian households

Lithuanian households will be paying about 5.5% less for electricity as of July, says the state-run electricity and gas distribution company Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO).

The company’s board have signed off on the new pricing scheme for energy supply to households which it submitted to the State Price and Energy Control Commission.

With the new pricing, households will see their electricity bills go down by €1 on average, ESO said in a statement.

“Electricity interconnections with Poland and Sweden were launched at the beginning of this year and had a major impact on the country’s entire energy sector. Competition in the electricity wholesale market allows us to cut prices for households and businesses,” Liudas Liutkevičius, CEO of ESO, said.

The rates for household users will go down 5.5% or 5.6%, depending on the plan they are using, while businesses will see their electricity bills slashed between 3.3% and 3.6%.
