Moreover, Maria Damanaki, EU Commissioner responsible for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, reassured Lithuania of the Commission’s support in efforts to get the vessel released, the Commission’s Representation in Lithuania said in a press release on Wednesday.
“I am very concerned by the forced detention of the Lithuanian vessel by Russian border guards. We are coordinating closely with the Lithuanian authorities and are doing our best to get the vessel released as soon as possible,” the Commissioner said in a letter to the Lithuanian Agriculture Minister.
