The nomination of Pašilis, a 42-year-old judge from Ukmergė, was endorsed by parliament last week. He was sworn into the office on Tuesday at the President’s Office.

“My wish for you is to be able to, first, transform the way prosecutors see themselves and their work, so that they care less about defending themselves and more about defending the state, protecting people from trouble. If you can invest into the prosecutors’ skills, their quality, understanding, even changes in mentality, it would be the biggest achievement we could want and hope from you,” President Dalia Grybauskaitė said during the oath ceremony.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė appointed Pašilis to the post for five years.

According to the Lithuanian Constitution, prosecutor general is appointed and dismissed by the president with endorsement from parliament.
