“I am asking (the court) to declare as untrue and defamatory information provided in the VSD report. I am not raising any financial issues or seeking damages,” Šukys, who currently serves as Seimas ombudsman, told BNS on Monday.
“This report contains at least three episodes in which I am mentioned. There is information that does not correspond to reality, linking together facts or events that are not interrelated in any way,” he added.
In the ex-minister’s words, VSD provided the parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defense (NSGK) with incorrect information about him seeking the post of the speaker of the Seimas back in 2009. In one of the episodes, he is said to be a member of a party he did not belong to.
According to Šukys, the intelligence agency may face reputational damage if the court satisfies his claim.
VSD confirmed to BNS that this was a second lawsuit regarding its information to the committee for its parliamentary investigation into interest groups’ influence on political processes, but did not comment on Šukys’ claim.
The first lawsuit was filed by the Liberal Movement.
The committee says in its findings, among things, that MG Baltic’s top executives enacted a political scenario aimed at creating a new, Liberal party meeting the group’s interests. In less than 10 years after the establishment of the Lithuanian Liberal Movement, a political party closely associated with its top executives, MG Baltic became Lithuania’s most influential business groups.
