The list published by FIBA includes all of last year’s Eurobasket vice-champions, as well as Donatas Motiejūnas, who had a back injury last year, and Martynas Gecevičius, who tried his luck in Turkey last year and has not played for the national team since the 2010 world championship under coach Kęstutis Kemzūra.
The list included a few young candidates as well: Vaidas Kariniauskas, who played in Greece, Marius Grigonis, who did well in Spain, and Edgaras Ulanovas, who had a good season with Kaunas’ Žalgiris. Mindaugas Girdžiūnas, who played well for Klaipėda’s Neptūne this year, will be vying for Mantas Kalnietis’ spot, though Girdžiūnas was on the national team’s last year as well and was not invited.
Kazlauskas has said that he will soon announce which players will be invited to the training camps starting in Palanga on June 20th. The LKL promises to publish the shorter list of candidates tomorrow.
