Experts to search for other partisans’ burial places after finding Ramanauskas’ remains

“This year, search efforts will continue not only in the Našlaičių Cemetery, but we also have sites in Dzūkija, where archaeological research will be done to find and identify the remains in Merkine and Šventežeris,” said Eugenijus Peikštenis, director of the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights.

He spoke at a presentation of the results of research on Ramanauskas-Vanagas on Wednesday.

The remains of Ramanauskas-Vanagas were found in the capital’s Našlaičių (Orphans) Cemetery earlier this year.

The commander of the Dzūkija partisan region in southern Lithuania, who was brutally tortured and executed by the Soviets, will be buried in a state funeral in the Antakalnis Cemetery on Saturday.
