First basketball match in Rio attracts record TV audience in Lithuania

A record number of Lithuanian TV viewers tuned in to watch their national men’s basketball team play the first match in Rio Olympics.

The first and very dramatic game saw Lithuanians narrowly beat team Brazil 82:76 on Sunday. The match broadcast in Lithuania started at 8 PM local time attracted a record audience. As many as 37% of TV viewers in have tuned in to see the match, according to the preliminary TNS data.

According to preliminary data, 771,000 viewers were watching the match in Lithuania. It was the most popular sports broadcast in Lithuania this year, even ahead of the European football championship finals.
