The visit is intended to celebrate 11 years since Lithuania joined NATO and the NATO air-policing mission in the Baltic states, the Foreign Ministry said.

Linkevičius will visit Italian and Polish airmen patrolling the Baltic skies.

Eleven years ago, on March 29 of 2004, Lithuania’s then prime minister Algirdas Brazauskas along with his Bulgarian, Estonian, Latvian, Romanian, Slovak and Slovenian counterparts presented ratification letters of the Washington Treaty to the US then secretary of state Colin Powell, thus making Lithuania a fully-fledged NATO member.
