Ivanauskas is the former head of the Cash Department of the Cash Service of the central bank. However, the move has yet to be confirmed by the special services after verifying the information about the winner of the competition announced by the Ministry of Communications in accordance to procedures of the Law on Prevention of Corruption.
Since 1990 Ivanauskas has been a member of the Social Democratic Party.
The commission formed by the Ministry of Communications had to choose a future director general from three candidates. Candidacies of two other participants were rejected as they did not match criteria of the tender. 55-year-old Ivanauskas was deemed the best suited candidate based on his previous working experience and education. Prospective Inland Waterways Authority activity programme provided by the candidate was also favourably assessed.
As reported, the seat was vacant for six months after the Ministry of Communications dismissed Gintautas Labanauskas, long-term director general of the Inland Waterways Authority.
