TS-LKD chairman Gabrielius Landsbergis said: “I am pleased that Ingrida Šimonytė has decided to stand as a candidate to the Lithuanian Parliament together with the renewed TS-LKD team. Her experience, professionalism and personal qualities are needed in Lithuanian politics of today, when populism and cynicism is on the rise while intelligence is on the wane. For many people the work undertaken by Šimonytė and her continued activities is a model example of the highest professionalism and honesty. I believe that her choice will encourage even more wavering people to leave the personal comfort zone and contribute to solving common problems and to Lithuania’s advancement.”

Šimonytė is deputy chairwoman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, a lecturer at Vilnius University and was elected chairwoman of Vilnius University Council. In 2009-2012 she served as the minister of finance in the government headed by conservative PM Andrius Kubilius. In 2015, Šimonytė was awarded the Cross of Officer of the Order of Vytautas the Great. Šimonytė is from Vilnius and lives in Antakalnis, in which she will contend for an MP’s seat.
