Former Vilnius mayor Artūras Zuokas decided not to stand in Karoliniškės single-member constituency and moved to Senamiestis constituency after former interior minister Saulius Skvernelis announced he would be running for a Seimas seat in the former.
Last week, it was announced that Skvernelis that Skvernelis, first on the candidate list of the Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union, was to stand in Karoliniškės single seat constituency.
On Wednesday, the Lithuanian Freedom Union informed that instead of Artūras Zuokas, another former interior minister Raimondas Šukys will be competing with Skvernelis for a seat in Karoliniškės single-member constituency. Allegedly, he hismelf has asked to be allowed to challenge Skvernelis.
“I want to challenge Skvernelis as a former interior minister against a former interior minister. In fact, Karoliniškės constituency can be called a former interior ministers‘ district since Juozas Bernatonis has also announced to be running here. I think the three of us will really have things to discuss, particularly personal responsibilities, from which Skvernelis has always successfully ran away,” said Šukys.
