He said he had discussed the issue with Lithuania’s Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis on Monday night.
“Of course, we are concerned because it is a French company, but we, as a state, as a country, are not part of this case,” the minister told reporters in Vilnius on Tuesday.
“There is an ongoing judicial procedure in which the state is not involved, but we are following it very carefully and we wish there is an agreement. I think it’s in the best interest of everyone,” he added.
Masiulis’ spokesman Mantas Dubauskas said that the Lithuanian minister presented Vilnius’ position on the matter during the meeting with Desir, but did not discuss details of the claim.
In January, the French energy, water supply and waste management group Veolia filed a petition for international arbitration with the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, demanding a compensation of more than €100 million from Lithuania.
Veolia claims that its subsidiaries, Vilniaus Energija (Vilnius Energy) and Litesko, have suffered losses due to unfair and discriminatory legislative amendments and regulatory decisions.
