“The National Land Service announces that Furmanavičius, adviser to the director, submitted a resignation letter to acting director Aušra Kalantaitė on Thursday afternoon, asking to dismiss him from the post. The director of the National Land Service accepted his resignation,” reads the press release.
Furmanavičius is suspected of pressuring the state institution’s employees to allow forming a land plot in the capital city by merging state-owned land with a company’s existing land plot.
Furmanavičius is a member of the Labour Party. He held the post of interior minister in the Cabinet of Social Democratic Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas between 2004 and 2006.
