Girls in Lithuania to be vaccinated against HPV

Health Minister Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė told a press conference on Monday she expect the vaccination programme, which will start in 2016, to reduce the number of cervical cancer cases by up to 70 percent.

“Such vaccination is included into the prophylactic vaccination schedule as of 2016. (…) Vaccinations will be done under the two or three doze scheme depending on the age. And the age is 9-14-aged girls who are not yet sexually active,” the minister said.

The HPV is sexually transmitted.
