Government rejects proposal to include foreign names on IDs

The group suggested placing these second names on the first page of the observations sections or on the backside of an individual’s identification card.

In its comment against the proposal, the government indicated that the proposed legal regulation would introduce confusion by creating a precedent for two or more identities on national registers kept by the Republic of Lithuania or other countries.

The cabinet of ministers also said that it was unclear what the purpose of such an entry would be, as the Constitutional Court has already ruled that such an entry could not be used officially.
