Ignitis expands its operations in Poland to become electricity and gas supplier for business customers

Ignitis Polska, a Polish subsidiary of Ignitis, entered the country’s market of electricity and natural gas supply for business customers. Strengthening the position in the Polish market is one of the goals set in the renewed long-term corporate strategy of Ignitis Group.

Founded in 2017, Ignitis Polska so far engaged only in the wholesale electricity trading on the stock exchange, selling up to five terawatt-hours of electricity per year in the Polish wholesale electricity market, Ignitis Group press office announced in a press release.

“We have been operating in the Polish market for several years, we’ve accumulated considerable experience, therefore we are aware of the needs and expectations of local customers. As a result, entering the segment of energy supply to business customers is natural for the further development of the company.

As a part of the international energy company Ignitis Group, which has extensive experience in European energy markets, we can offer our customers in Poland optimal solutions, the opportunity to actively manage their portfolio and diversify the risks associated with energy or gas purchases. In addition, we place great emphasis on sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions that enable our customers to use clean energy and contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution,“ says Diana Kazakevič, Regional Manager of Ignitis Group for Poland.

Ignitis Group is also actively investing in renewable energy projects in the Polish market. Currently, the wind farm project, consisting of 29 turbines, with a total installed capacity of 94 MW is being developed in the Pomeranian Voivodship. The wind farm will start operating in 2021 with investment reaching EUR 127 million. This project won a guaranteed tariff in Poland‘s auction for renewable energy projects. Pomerania wind farm is currently the second largest wind farm under construction in Poland and is planned to generate enough energy to supply electricity to almost 160,000 households throughout the year.

Last year, Ignitis Group received the Polish Business Award in the “The Largest Lithuanian Investment in Poland 2019” category for the development of the Pomerania wind farm.

In 2019 Ignitis Polska entered the wholesale electricity market of Poland and joined Nasdaq Commodities OMX exchange in Scandinavia, thus expanding the wholesale electricity trading portfolio in the region. Nasdaq Commodities OMX exchange trades in financial instruments linked with electricity prices in Scandinavia, Germany, Netherlands, the UK and the Baltic States. This exchange also trades electricity certificates and derivative instruments of coal, natural gas, fuel oil and marine resources.
