Influence peddling suspicions brought against Lithuanian MEP Paksas

It is suspected that Paksas “directly promised and agreed to accept” a 15,000-euro bribe in 2015, when he was chairman of the Order and Justice party.

“It is suspected that in exchange he (Paksas) promised to exert influence on state institutions and civil servants to ensure their lawful act in exercising their powers,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a press release.

As part of the investigation, suspicions were earlier brought against Gedvydas Vainauskas, CEO of the media group Lietuvos Rytas, and businessman Antanas Zabulis. Both men deny the suspicions.
