Investigation of FIBA’s attack on Eurocup requested by Lithuanian MEP

DELFI / Kiril Čachovskij

In March and April of this year, FIBA threatened national basketball federations by saying they would lose the right to participate in FIBA’s Euroleague games if any of the national federations’ teams decided to play in the Eurocup.

FIBA also said that such countries’ national teams would not be allowed to participate in the Olympics.

Ropė requested a written response from the European Commission on whether or not the European Union can regulate such potentially unfair commercial practices. He also asked whether the EC intends to investigate these potential cases of unfair commercial practices and potentially illegal use of FIBA’s influence and commercial blackmail.
