Justice Ministry refuses to register Lithuanian Freedom Union

Ministry of Justice

According to the Ministry, the name of the Lithuanian Freedom Union does not meet the requirements outlined in the Civil Code: the name identifying a corporate entity cannot be identical or misleadingly similar to the names of other such entities.

After a merger of the Liberal and Central Union (LiCS) and political party Union TAIP, led by Vilnius Mayor Artūras Zuokas, the party chose a new name, the Lithuanian Freedom Union. However, it is identical to the name of another political party that operated between 13 September 1994 and 13 January 2012 and may mislead the society.

The Lithuanian Freedom Union, which was registered on 13 September 1994, was led by former MP, former Kaunas Mayor Vytautas Šustauskas. On 13 January 2012, the party changed its name to the Union of Fighters for Lithuania.
