Klaipėda LNG terminal praised by EU for increasing competition

The European Commission’s Energy Director General Dominique Ristori said Klaipėda LNG terminal is a good example of the benefits that a floating terminal (FSRU) technology brings. He said Lithuania has not only ensured its energy security, but also adapted the LNG terminal to the region‘s needs. Ristori said that the Commission will support Lithuania in the follow-on steps – including securing LNG from global markets.

“About 50% global LNG supply growth is estimated over the next three years, which will lead to lower prices and open up additional opportunities for the European Union. The European Commission has prepared the EU’s LNG and gas storage strategy with detailed guidance on how to make full use of LNG in Europe,” said the Vice Minister of Energy Aleksandras Spruogis.

The strategy was discussed on March 18 at the Energy Directors‘ General Meeting held in Brussels.
