Laima Vengale-Dits, adviser to the Equal Gender Opportunities ombudsperson, told a news conference at the parliament on Friday that this was due to fear of losing a job.
“The Office of Equal Gender Opportunities does not get as many complaints from people subjected to discrimination on the grounds of their sexual orientation. The problem exists in other countries, as well, we face the same problem in the EU network of equal opportunities ombudsmen. The failure to report certain incidents, especially in the field of relations at work, is caused by fear of losing one’s job and draw a negative reaction, although the individuals are protected from persecution and negative consequences,” she added.
Vengale-Dits confirmed that none of the 77 probes opened at the office last year were in connection to discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.
