“The postage stamp dedicated to the Tatar community is a very important event for philately, both in Lithuania and worldwide,” the state postal company quoted Adas Jakubauskas, chairman of the Union of Tatar Communities in Lithuania, as saying in a press release.

“This is the first postage stamp dedicated to Lithuania’s Tatars,” he said.

The Tatars, one of the oldest ethnic groups in Lithuania, last year marked 620 years since their arrival in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and will next year celebrate the 700th anniversary of their alliance with Grand Duke Gediminas, Jakubauskas noted.

Some 20,000 copies of the 1-euro denomination stamp will be put into circulation.
