“We now have only one family. Perhaps we can say that it was the festive period when the work was stopped in Greece and Italy. However, we had expected to bring at least some families in January, this has not happened and we do not have anyone to select – our colleagues in Greece and Italy, in my opinion, are not controlling the process or doing it very badly.
“Refugees in most cases are probably not waiting to be resettled somewhere, registered and to receive travel documents. Refugees do not look at the procedures and just travel according to their own rules,” Vaitkus said.
According to the EU resettlement program to other EU countries, 279 refugees have been moved from Italy and 202 from Greece to date. However, the European Union has an agreement to redistribute 160,000 refugees in the next two years.
Lithuania has committed to take 1105 refugees over that period.
