The fund was established to ensure that urgently needed humanitarian assistance reaches people caught up in crises.

CERF is funded by voluntary contributions, mostly from governments.

Lithuania contributed 20,000 euros to the fund in 2017.

The country has allocated a total of 265,000 euros in humanitarian assistance to various countries, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and CERF this year so far.
