“The Lithuanian citizen who was in Libya has arrived in Madrid from Tripoli on a military airplane, which Spanish institutions provided for staff members of their country’s embassy, their family members and citizens of other countries of the European Union,” the ministry said in a press release.

According to the statement, the Lithuanian Embassy to Spain coordinated the Lithuanian citizen’s travel on the airplane.

Clashes in Libya’s capital Tripoli, the bloodies since the 2011 ousting of dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi, started on 13 July after a coalition of armed groups, mainly Islamic, attacked the country’s main airport.

The violence has reportedly claimed at least 100 lives, with another 400 people injured.
