Lithuania expresses concern to UK over attack on Lithuanian home in Northern Ireland

A Lithuanian vice-minister of foreign affairs spoke with the UK‘s Minister of State for Immigration Robert Goodwill regarding the attack on a Lithuanian home in Northern Ireland.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Vice-Minister Mantvydas Bekešius expressed concern about the even and urged his counterpart to personally keep an eye on the investigation, also requesting for the Lithuanian embassy to be kept up to date with the situation.

Goodwill noted that UK institutions were not yet sure whether this was a hate crime, but assured of the dedication of himself and UK law enforcement to investigating the matter.

The attack occurred on Monday with attackers shooting firearms at the doors and windows of a house occupied by several Lithuanians in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. None of the four occupants were directly harmed by the attack, albeit it left them rattled.

The Lithuanian embassy in the UK is aware of 10 potential hate crimes against Lithuanian citizens recently, with 5 of them being investigated by the police.
