Lithuania, Latvia, UK and Hungary to set up EU Eastern Partnership defence fund

The agreement will be signed by Lithuanian Minister of National Defence and his counterparts from the UK, Latvia and Hungary in Brussels on Tuesday. The fund will provide financial assistance to Eastern Partnership countries for their participation in the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy. Other countries will also be able to join the fund, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The fund to be set up is a real practical measure that will allow Eastern Partnership countries to get more actively involved in Europe’s Common Security and Defence Policy. Europe needs to take such practical measures in the existing security situation,” Minister Juozas Olekas was quoted as saying in the statement.
