Lithuania, Poland stepping up aviation links

At the Warsaw meeting of the council Baltic functional airspace block on Tuesday, the countries should approve an action plan on expansion of the block by 2025, the Lithuanian Transport and Communications Ministry said.

“We are bigger when we act together – a controlled airspace has swelled to over 400,000 square km, the total number of aircraft we serve and the revenue have increased,” Transport and Communications Vice-Minister Ričardas Degutis said.

The action plan should expand operations by including other air blocks operating in Europe and providers of air navigation services outside the European Union (EU).

Established by Lithuania and Poland in 2012, the Baltic functional airspace block allows more efficient control of air traffic, optimum capacity of the European air space, better flight safety and fewer flight delays.
