Lithuania reaches final stage of OECD accession

President Dalia Grybauskaitė, who will on Thursday have a meeting with one of the heads of the organization, describes it as an important recognition of the country’s long-term efforts. A visit by top-ranking OECD representatives marks an official start of the final stage in the country’s accession process, the president’s press service said on Wednesday.

The OECD delegation that will visit Lithuania will include Mari Kiviniemi, OECD Deputy Secretary-General, and 14 experts.

According to Grybauskaitė, an invitation to hold talks on OECD membership shows that Lithuania is seen as a reliable, economically developed and stable country in the international community.

In July, Lithuania was officially invited to open talks with OECD, which currently has 34 members.
