Speaking at the conference dedicated to the Agreement on the Strategic Guidelines for the 2014-2020 Foreign, Security and Defence Policies, which was signed by parliamentary parties, Ažubalis stressed that the contribution of diplomacy to the country’s security was being ignored while funding for defence and physical security was being increased.

“Security begins not with the military or ammunition, but rather with a country’s ability to act in the international arena,” said the deputy chairman of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs.

According to the MP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carrying out nearly 70 percent of tasks provided for in the agreement of political parties, but its funding is the lowest of all ministries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was allocated slightly over EUR 72.5 million in the budget of 2015.
