“Lithuania supports the leadership of Germany and its Chancellor Angela Merkel in resolving the issue of Ukraine. This mission requires considerable wisdom, negotiating power and great personal commitment, which may not be undervalued in the face of this profound historical crisis,” Kirkilas said, the press service of the Seimas reports.
Both Schmitz and Kirkilas agreed that strengthening bilateral cooperation in many areas, in particular defence, was of utmost importance to both Germany and Lithuania. The two countries will further coordinate their positions when cooperating within international institutions.
Lithuania and Germany will also harmonise their positions with regard to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the European Union and the United States, aimed at creating a vast free trade area between the two continents.
