Lithuania to give food and medical supplies to Ukraine

“With our assistance, we, first of all, want to express solidarity with and support to Ukraine,” National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas was quoted as saying in the ministry’s statement on Tuesday.

Lithuania’s security also depends on stability in Ukraine, the minister said, therefore, it’s important to provide practical assistance to the country.

The assistance package will include over 4,000 items of dried food rations as well as means of medical assistance and will reach Ukraine in the coming weeks. It will be flown to Ukraine with a C-27J Spartan of the Lithuanian Air Force. The ministry plans to spend around 98,000 litas (over EUR 28,000) on it.

Earlier in August, Lithuania’s Ministry of the Interior announced plans to provide Ukrainian troops with bulletproof vests, helmets and bulletproof shields.
