After Lithuania lifted a ban on selling land to foreigners in 2014, the government introduced a number of safeguards, fearing that big international companies would buy up agricultural land. The buyers were required to be trained farmers with experience in agriculture.
The government is now considering to eliminate the requirement for buyers to have a training in agriculture. They would still be required to have worked in agriculture for at least three years over the last decade.
Banks would be allowed to sell agricultural land over five years, instead of three according to current rules.
