On that day, this year’s lists of conscripts will be formed under observation of representatives of the society, and sending of conscription notices will start. All in all, 3,000 young men are set to be conscripted in Lithuania this year, with part of them expected to come voluntarily.

“Although the official start of conscription is only in May, I am inviting all young men and women, aged 18-38 and wishing to voluntarily do their duty for the homeland, to start registering at the nearest units of conscription administration. Volunteers will be given the possibility to choose their place of service,” Olekas was quoted as saying in a statement.

Sending of conscription notices will start in the middle of May after the publication of the conscript lists. Upon receipt of a conscription notice, conscripts will have to come to regional conscription units on the date specified in the notice and will be later referred for medial examination to the Military Medical Service.
