Lithuania turns to EC for compensation to farmers

Tomas Berzinskas, spokesman for the prime minister, confirmed to BNS that the letter had been sent to the EC on Thursday morning.

Preliminary estimates by the Agriculture Ministry put farmers’ losses at over 40 million euros, however, the Chamber of Agriculture estimates that farmers’ losses may reach over 200 million euros.

President Dalia Grybauskaite said in Tallinn last Friday that she had received assurances from European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker that “there would be some kind of support”.
