Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and visiting Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori.
They also discussed possibilities to connect their capitals with direct flights.
“I am inviting the UAE to open its embassy in Lithuania. It will strengthen very much bilateral economic, trade and cultural relations,” the Lithuanian prime minister was quoted as saying in a statement.
The UAE minister approved the idea of opening an embassy in Lithuania.
According to the statement, Lithuania has also plans to soon open its embassy in the UAE. Moreover, a joint Lithuanian-UAE economic committee should be set up to promote cooperation and discuss specific investment projects.
The meeting also touched upon possibilities for launching direct flights between the countries. The UAE minister promised to find possibilities by the end of this year for UAE airlines to launch regular flights to connect Vilnius with Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The Lithuanian government statement also says the UAE is one of the key trade partners in the Arab world. Lithuania’s exports to the UAE jumped 73 percent last year, and bilateral trade turnover reached 136 million euros.
