Lithuania ups spending on R&D by 11.4%

Based on the figures of Statistics Lithuania, most of R&D funding was allocated to higher education sector, 54.8 percent or LTL 628 million (EUR 182 million). Meanwhile, business sector received 25.4 percent or LTL 292 million (EUR 85 million) and government sector received 19.8 percent of funds or LTL 228 million (EUR 66 million).

R&D foreign funding in 2013 compared with 2012 increased by 24.6 percent or by LTL 84 million (EUR 24 million). Most of foreign financing came from the European Union funds redistributed via the state budget – LTL 305 million (EUR 88 million) or 71.7 percent of the total foreign funding.

In 2013 R&D spending accounted for 0.95 percent of GDP. In higher education and government sector this figure stood at 0.71 percent (in 2012 – 0.65 percent), whereas in business sector at 0.24 percent (the same as in 2012).
