“Lithuania is a member of the United Nations Security Council and makes active contribution to ensuring peace and security in the world. On behalf of the president of the Lithuanian Bishops’ Conference as well as other presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe, I am asking you to do everything possible for the wave of violence in Iraq to be stopped and people to receive all possible aid,” he wrote in a letter.

In response to Pope Francis call, members of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe from 39 European counties, including Lithuania, have signed a joint letter to members of the United Nations Security Council, calling them to protect Christians and members of other religious minorities in northern Iraq.
