Lithuanian auditor office: Unoptimized school network prevents wage rise for teachers

“(Municipalities) are not restructuring the network of educational institutions to match the declining number of students, which makes it in part impossible for school principals to ensure adequate wages for teachers. If the school network will be optimized at the current pace, salaries will not see significant improvement (…), as teachers will not get sufficient hours,” the office said in a report on Tuesday.

Some education trade unions intend to initiate an agreement of parties represented in the country’s parliament on a program to increase teacher salaries.
