Lithuanian-Chinese relationship presents opportunities for growth – Butkevičius

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met with People’s Republic of China State Council member Yang Jing on Thursday.

The two leaders discussed developing the bilateral relationship between Lithuania and China, the countries’ cooperation in the “China+16” format, partnership in the logistics and transport sectors, and their economic and cultural ties.

“The last years have marked a new level in the relationship between Lithuania and China. Ever more frequent meetings with China’s highest leaders are being held both in Lithuania and in China. I warmly remember last year’s successful ‘China+16’ head of state summit in the city of Suzhou in China as well as the Boao Asian forum’s annual conference in March of this year, at which the Chinese prime minister and I discussed the potential for developing Lithuanian exports into China,” said Butkevičius.

After going into detail about some of the meetings that have already been held between the two countries, Butkevičius explained that “Lithuania’s geographical location and infrastructural advantages can be used as a cargo transport gate to the EU ans Scandinavian states’ markets for Chinese businesses. This is proven by Chinese state company CMG’s completed offices in Vilnius and Klaipėda.”
