Lithuanian co tries to revive Saulė shuttle container train

DELFI / Karolina Pansevič

“We are starting from scratch today. We are back knocking on the door of the Kazakhs, trying to reopen it. We can’t see any clear light at the end of the tunnel yet,” it quoted VPA Logistics CEO Darius Beinortas as saying.

“Unfortunately, the embargo, economic sanctions and the devaluation of the currencies of the eastern countries and the resulting fall in the purchasing power have sharply reduced the flow of goods to Kazakhstan. Therefore, we failed to attract freight traffic,” he said.

The Mercury shuttle train service, which ran between Moscow and Klaipėda, remains on hold for the same reasons. The project is operated by Lithuania’s freight transportation and forwarding group Arijus.
